Folsom
Folsom was laid out as Granite City on Joseph Folsom's rancho and took his name after he died in 1855. On July 13, 1895 the Folsom Powerhouse sent alternating current 22 miles to Sacramento, one of the first long-distance transmissions of its kind; the powerhouse is now a State Historic Park. Folsom Dam followed in 1956, and with it Folsom Lake.
