A New Year's Eve table: coupes, gold and candlelight
New Year's Eve falls on a Thursday this year. Whether it is a dinner for ten or an open house for sixty, the table is built around one moment: the glass in everyone's hand at midnight.

Build it around the toast
Choose the midnight glass first. A coupe such as the Melodia Coupe or the Smokey Coupe Glass reads as a celebration on its own; a flute such as the Crystal Moss Champagne Flute keeps the bubbles longer. Each is $1.50.
A silver Large Champagne Bucket, $20, on the table or by the bar keeps the bottles cold and close.
Black, gold and candlelight
A black cloth makes gold and crystal glow after dark. The Black Poli Table Linen is $18 in round or rectangular sizes, with the Poli Black Napkin at $1.25. Gold Matte Flatware is $0.75 a piece.
Light the table low: a run of Gold Candle Holders, $1 each, down the center does more than any centerpiece at midnight.
Counting glasses for the night
A long evening uses more than one glass per guest. Plan for the drink of the evening and a separate glass for the toast.
| Format | Evening glass | Midnight glass | For 40 guests |
|---|---|---|---|
| Seated dinner | Water goblet and wine glass | Coupe or flute | 120 glasses |
| Standing party | 1.5 cocktail or wine glasses | Coupe or flute | 100 glasses |
Dinner or open house
A seated New Year's dinner is set like any holiday dinner: see how to set a holiday table. An open house needs surfaces more than settings, so add a few dressed cocktail tables at $15 each and a Martini Glass or two for the bar at $2.
Plan your pickup around the holiday
When the pieces are free, we can prepare an order the same day, and there is no minimum order. Pickup from our Lincoln warehouse is Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm; in the holiday week, confirm your pickup and return times when you book. The season's pieces are together in The Holiday Table. Send us your list.
