West Sacramento
West Sacramento is one of the youngest cities in the region, formed on January 1, 1987 from Broderick, Bryte and West Sacramento. Broderick was once the Town of Washington, the Yolo County seat until 1862. The Port of West Sacramento opened in 1963 with the deep-water ship channel, built mainly to ship the valley's rice, and Tower Bridge, opened in December 1935, still lifts to let boats through on the way into downtown Sacramento.
